PIE Sound Navigation System
A spatial orientation system for people with visual impairments.
The device emits a sound signal exactly when and where the person needs it.
Works only when needed. Helps those who truly need it.

PIE Sound Navigation System
PIE beacons are a three-component Ukrainian solution, developed by the NGO "Practice of Innovative Experience",
which facilitates spatial orientation for people with vision loss. Blind and visually impaired people can find
the necessary location, but it is difficult for them to find the entrance to the premises.
The beacon (device), control panel, and "PIE Sound Navigation System" application solve this problem:
when a person approaches the required location, they activate the beacon from the mobile application,
and the device emits a characteristic sound above the door. Thus, visually impaired people can
enter the premises without hindrance.
Comprehensive solution:
- Sound alert device.
- Special application for working with devices.
- Control panel that allows monitoring battery level, seeing the number of connections, changing the device name, and adding additional information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Briefly about the main things: questions and answers
What is the PIE Sound Navigation System?
It is a three-component complex that includes a device that emits a sound convenient and understandable for people with visual impairments, which can be placed in the necessary location for orientation, as well as a mobile application that allows the user to turn on the device's sound exactly when they need to find the desired entrance. The control panel allows monitoring the battery level, seeing the number of connections, changing the device name, and adding additional information.
Do the beacon or application work separately from each other?
The PIE beacon (sound device) and the application are designed to work together — and only together are they effective. The PIE beacon is searched for as a regular BLE device, but it can only work with a specially created application. The application designed to work with PIE beacons will not work with any other devices.
At what distance does the beacon work with the mobile application?
The PIE Sound Navigation System works on BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology, so the range and quality of the application's connection with the device may depend on many conditions, including the presence of trees or other obstacles in the signal path. On average, you can expect a range of 30-60 meters from the device, and the application will be stably connected to the PIE beacon.
At what distance will the beacon signal be heard?
PIE Sound Navigation System devices have a basic volume that is sufficient for a signal up to 30 meters. But the ability to hear the PIE beacon sound depends on the surrounding conditions: if it's a quiet yard or a guesthouse outside the city, the beacon will be heard far and clearly; if it's a crowded street near a highway or a cafe with music, the general noise will overpower the device's sound. It should also be noted that rain or wind noise also reduces the ability to hear the PIE beacon from a greater distance.
